About Sabbath Thoughts

When most people first start to think about rest, they ask themselves two questions: “Is this allowed?” and “If it is, could I actually pull this off?”  I am living proof that the answer to both of these questions is yes, and I would love to help you reach the same conclusion.

IMG_7204My name is Mike Gaston.  I am a former missionary, a Pastor, a happy husband, a spoiled father of two daughters, an obsessed grandfather, and a recently-convinced pursuer of the benefits of Sabbath rest.  This blog will allow me to share thoughts about Sabbath, as well as thoughts about God and the Christian life that come out of my Sabbath moments.

If you are new to the blog, you can learn how this all started by taking a look at the first two posts from April 2012: Intentional Sabbath and Intentional Sabbath Part 2.  That introduction will allow you to get more out of the other posts as you browse the archives.

I invite you to follow my blog by clicking the “follow” button in the lower corner of your browser window and enter your e-mail address.  Wordpress will send you a copy each time I post (and they will do nothing else with your address).  I tend to post about twice a month.

It’s way past time to take Jesus up on His offer to give rest to the weary and heavy-laden who come to Him.  I hope this blog helps you to accept that gift.

Odds and Ends

In addition to the first two posts that I mentioned above, I invite you to read two of my most popular posts: “A Modern Confession” and “When is Pastor’s Wife Appreciation Month?”

I wrote three posts about my brief (and happily victorious) battle with male breast cancer.  You can find them here, here, and here.

Along with the resting and contemplating and hiking, I have developed an interest in photography.  Most of the nature pictures you see on the blog are mine, taken during my Sabbath hikes.  Please feel free to use them if you are interested.  God made the beauty, I just captured it.  He owns it, so you can use it.

Although I work for Heights Church, the views expressed here are my own, and do not necessarily represent blah, blah, blah … you know the drill.

Thank you for visiting my blog.  Please let me know what you think.

Our Grace Group is just now concluding ‘The Rest of God’…our choice the last few weeks based on your recommendation. Have thoroughly enjoyed and been challenged by it. Thanks so much dear friend.

  2. This is Maggie from the Heights Church. I really desire to receive your Sabbath Thoughts in my E-Mail – having trouble with the “copy/paste” idea?? Please add me to your list to receive these thoughts – God Bless You Pastor Mike!!

    • Hi, Maggie. I’m glad that you’d like to receive the posts. WordPress doesn’t really give me a way to add people to the mailing list. You should be able to click on the word “follow” in the lower corner of your browser window, and it pops up a box where you just need to fill in your e-mail address. I would do it for you, but because I already subscribe, that “follow” box doesn’t appear. Give it a try, and if you have any problems let me know and I’ll see what I can do to help.
